Riley Howell Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established in memory of Riley Howell a graduate of A-B Tech’s College Transfer program. Upon graduating from A-B Tech, Riley enrolled at the University of North Carolina- Charlotte. On April 30, 2019, Riley was a victim of a massive shooting at the university. Riley Howell, who was a Reserve Officer Training Corps cadet, was buried with full military honors and an honor guard on May 5. Over 1,000 people attended Howell’s funeral at Lake Junaluska, near his hometown of Waynesville. Howell was also posthumously awarded the ROTC Medal for Heroism as well as a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star which were presented to his family. This scholarship is provided to students enrolled in any curriculum program. Other qualifications include a minimum 2.5 GPA ; enrolled full-time.
